Greets FAX fans, I have been getting back in to my FAX collection lately and checking here.

There was some discussion of merchandise and I have put up a photo of an old poster here, for reference:
    https://www.posterogs.com/poster/4394-fax-label

I used to order discs from ear/rational and received this poster by surprise, probably 1996. It's now time to re-frame it and put it back on the wall.

Got from Ambient Soho in London as a freebie when I bought Redeye 'Arizona Tracks' (I think) album from them.

    Hi all,

A few years ago, there was some discussion about this poster where I mentioned that I recreated it digitally. As it has been a few years since I contacted c_soul who, at the time, wanted to sell their poster before I posted this, now is as good a time as any for me to post my recreation. I recall Bong and Jkbam were interested in this from the discussions in the original thread.

This is a digital file that attempts to maintain the original coloring, fonts, and proportions as best as I could get with the limited source images available. There is an A1 version and a 24" x 36" version. Those of you in the US can get the 24" x 36" version printed at Staples for just under $6 as a color blueprint, and it looks pretty good.

Hopefully a few of you guys on here enjoy the recreation. As a new listener who was never around to buy any Fax releases when they were new, I was never able to get anything unique like this, but I couldn't resist getting this printed and proudly hanging it up.

Cool, will make a canvas ;)

This is cool. I printed one out. I'm thinking though it might be better to make it as a vector image so image isn't so pixelated when printed large. I might try to make a vector version of this in Illustrator. IHeartGaming, do you know which font is used for the message on the poster?

At the time, when I made this, I made the resolution high enough that it shouldn't have really pixelated. Unfortunately, it did anyway. The font is ITC Avant Garde.

Immediately after posting this, I will be privately sending you the font, a vector version of the top image created online from The Putney's cover, and a vector version of the Fax logo (again created online, and not particularly well). I look forward to seeing your efforts, as light GIMP work is as far as my editing skills go.

If anyone else reading this wants the resources I mentioned, send me a private message, and I will send them to you as well.

Cool, thanks. I'll give it a shot!

I just want to quickly mention that the Fax logo can be located in a PDF here. It appears to be a vector to me since I can zoom in without distortion in Chrome and Inkscape, but I can't figure out how to extract it. Hopefully it is of use to you, as it seems to be a possible solution for getting the Fax logo in a vector format.

All right, I've managed to re-create the poster above in a vector based format using Adobe Illustrator after IHeartGaming graciously sent me the original FAX font used. IHeartGaming has also generously agreed to host the files on his website.

There are 2 poster versions: one with exactly the same text as posted above, and one where I added some periods at the end of the text blurb above the FAX logo. For each of those 2 versions I've got 3 different file formats: Adobe Illustrator, SVG and PDF. I recommend using the Illustrator or SVG files as they are in CMYK colour format, which is best for printing. I don't think the image looks as nice after conversion to PDF. Any print shop worth their salt should have access to Adobe Illustrator. I printed mine at my local university print shop for $14 CAD, which is like $10 USD.

In terms of sizing I made it to be 19.75" x 27.5" (50cm x 70cm) as that nicely fits the RIBBA frame (matte removed) from Ikea that I wanted to use. Given that it's a vector image, size manipulation shouldn't be a problem if you want to change the sizing.

It should also go without saying that since it's a vector based image it should be easy for people to manipulate and make their own creations. Don't want the Air cover? Turn it into Silence or 4Voice. It's very easy to change, so post your creations.

    I hope people enjoy.

Thanks for doing this, Ive ordered one. Will upload a photo when I receive it and get it framed.
Will sit nicely in the "Igloo" my studio ;)

just got it framed, I think the blue looks a lot lighter than it does
on the File. But it really pops and looks beautiful.
I'ts done with art glass, little or no reflection and the white Fax no on the bottom
looks like it standing out almost 3D. the guy who framed it pointed that out to me.

Just got to hang it now :)

  • gbanting about 1 year ago

I printed my on gloss paper so the colour pops a bit more. I like the art glass idea though.

I did end up printing the album covers poster, here's what it looks like on the wall: https://imgur.com/a/eN1ZkSp . I used a cheap-ish poster printing service (cannot remember it now) and low-cost fabric material, it was around $30-50.
