The first I heard of it was looking through RAs top mixes and in the descriptuion of a mix by Nina Kraviz it described how she had played a trance record but significantly pitched down. I thought this sounded interesting so I googled 'DJs playing trance' and got a whole load of responces.......https://www.redbull.com/gb-en/trance-back-artists-labels-djs-club-nights
Oh and also those 'trance wax' releases have added to the momentum....https://www.discogs.com/Trance-Wax-Trance-Wax-One/release/9073079
Well I'm into it anyway and am going to dig for some crappy old trance music now... -

Trance is still around in a number of record if you dig it very very carefully (Dario Rossi, Aoud SE MKII, Alpha Tracks, Voyageur 21, maybe some of the latest Bedrock or Pryda also for instance), but what you are describing is a grotesque revival where some hype Techno djs are trying to catch the attention of their audience with some classic melodies... in some boring repumped 2018 versions...
I think Techno is just trying to broaden the spectrum of style to keep artists big and bankable by adding some easy flavour and melodic content on their set, that's a shame.
On wax, there are a few initatives : Trance Wax by Ejeca indeed, Bonzai has made remakes as well with Netherworld, Renaissance remixing Age of Love or Cafe Del Mar, and now Positiva is also doing a few (BBE Flash, Greece 2000...)
but let's face it, that's just some revamping...
Trance as we knew it, is unfortunately dead the only remaining 'trance' scene is the one of Luminosity events (very digital), out of the vinyl scope... -

This post is hidden because you reported it for abuse. Show this postI was always spinning the true trance from the early days where the music denoted the word
," to be in a state of trance" which was/were usually trippy deep productions before it became bastardized in the late 90s with stabby melodys becoming associated with "cheesy".
I've since moved more towards techno but retain being attracted towards the trippy elements that's incorporated.
As a corollary, I thus shamelessly plug my mix of the Classics defining the beforementioned perspective.

Neo trance was the European name for the melodic prog house/tech house stuff that came of labels like Border Community and Kompakt during the 2000s. The sound of current neo trance is fairly similar to that stuff, to my ear.
I'd like trance to make a come back. There have been some interesting select tunes released by Deepchord and a few others that get close.
Edit: A lot of new sonic territories were discovered since trance was popular, and I'd like whatever artists are interested in that sound to push those boundaries even more. It feels like there is so much left that's unexplored. -

Trance changed in Germany from around 1994/1995 on into Hardtrance (before it was just pure let´s say from 1992 to 1994)...

Techno was equally as big as UK Hardcore in the UK in the early '90s. Trance I've never was a big fan of. Unfortunately it became big and took over techno's limelight, even in the UK by the way. It wasn't just a mainland European thing. So not as simplistic as your statement.
Maybe Trance wasn´t that big in the UK(where UK Hardcore was big during that time) or elsewhere...musicshaolin
Although this was overplayed around some circles, it's the most decent thing you've posted. Why? Because it's closer to acid and techno than trance in my opinion.

I don´t mean that Trance didn´t exist in the UK.Maybe it also depends on how your focus was at that time.
In the early 90s everything was pretty mixed up(like Techno,Acid,Trance all together) and later the different genres and subgenres started to evolve. When we went to Raves everything was played and mixed together.Ok,then there were different areas for each style.
In Germany we were happy about all the UK Hardcore stuff for example and mixed these records among others.
But here there were obviously labels that were well known for good Trance production (like Eye Q,Superstition,Frankfurt Beat,Harthouse etc.)Also Trance from Belgium-
If you take Bonzai records for example.Nearly everyone listened to those records. -

The UK had a massive trance scene for a number of years, up and down the country.
musicshaolin
Harthouse
musicshaolin
Bonzai Records
Out of the ones you've mentioned, the above are my preferred choices as they weren't straight trance labels. Some contained a style of each on one release so there was variety. Or many elements in one track. It was an experimental era so I enjoyed some of it. I didn't mind some of Bonzai's very early releases as they were more techno. The other labels were a bit too 'pure' trance for my tastes. Was never that much into pure trance even when it was 'good', even before it became commercial. I can't put my finger on why I didn't enjoy it as much as techno or hardcore. I think I found it dreary, cold, not enough funk or grit maybe. I really can't say why that is for sure.
At first a lot of trance was played at techno clubs. Or clubs that had more than one room, playing anything from techno, hardcore, house, trance, breakbeat, early jungle etc
It then shifted to places where it was associated with progressive house, tribal house, and then with hard house etc and all that big room stuff played at Ibiza commercial style clubs.
Again those scenes weren't really something I ever got into. I listened to a lot of it without it being my choice because of my friends, workmates, sisters, cousins etc I could say that about a lot of music actually.
If you're into the labels you've posted above, you should come to the UK and check out some record shops. There's tons of it sitting around in bargain bins as many DJs and collectors have ditched the vinyl for digital. Although that said, because of the more recent vinyl resurgence, prices have started to creep up again, slightly. But still, bargains are to be had, compared to other genres where prices are WELL steep. -

Sven Väth back then you could be sure to hear some fine mixture of Techno and (Hard) Trance! He sometimes played 8 hour sets!
There was one night in particular he came over and was advertised on the bill for a trance set. He was the main DJ. However, that didn't materialise much. He just got on a rough funky techno/techno/hard techno/hardcore vibe (with the odd hard trance track thrown in) all night long and looked like he was evidently enjoying himself. The trance heads weren't too happy I can tell you. Many of those complaining were tourists from Germany, Holland, Denmark, France, Italy and Spain. I think most of those ended up in the chillout/ambient/downtempo room smoking most of the night, had a chat with a few friendly but disappointed faces.
The main area was absolutely heaving with bodies that night. This was early 1994 by the way. He was on fire and his mixing was as tight as gnat's buttocks. Next to Trevor Rockliffe I believe, and a couple of other DJs I can't recall. But he was on the main bill. The rest of the revelers couldn't stop moving, which I was one of. One of the best sets I've ever heard. -

Bah! Many of these UK hardcore records are way too expensive. Especially circa 1993, when everything was turning into jungle. Some of them are really badly produced, pressed badly, noisy, too many bootlegs, badly kept etc yet command unrealistic prices. But I agree. I not only wish i bought more of it, but much of what i got rid of which was the late 1992-1993 is worth a fortune now. I got rid of much it (for a number of reasons) for peanuts before it started to really increase in price. Now it's untouchable. Techno is going the same way.

You opened this thread and now you want me to name all the good records?
Yes, for me trance was a dirty word. The DJs who played to always try to create one very long seemless sound and I found it very boring. The so called 'extactic' quality of a lot of the music also used to make me feel sad rather than ....extatic, where as something like Joey Beltrams 'Energy Flash' (which is, I guess a darker sound than trance) would really resonate with me. The music policy of trance DJs appeared, to me, to be very strict with no posibility for much inclusion of diverse genres that were available.....all reasons why I didn't like it...musicshaolin
Why don´t you go and dig for yourself?I don´t have to educate you - either you like Trance or not
I love a good dig, but I also find the knoweledge of people who are really into a certan genre invaluable. I hate trance which is why I'm asking what the good stuff is so that I might find something in the genre that appeals to me....thanks loads for all of the recommendations dude ! -

I grew up with some 2000-era trance, as well, so I do like some of it, partly - or mostly - due to nostalgia.
This mix in particular I like from that era, though I don't know if I'll be listening to that sort of stuff again anytime soon: https://www.discogs.com/Doran-Electric-Daisy-Carnival/release/66987
This was the epitome of trance from that era: https://youtu.be/UEtD9laYXgE - I still think it's solid, whether due to nostalgia or not.
The Digital Blonde's remix of Li Kwan - Point Zero (2004) - https://youtu.be/FhL7hCq2w1w - was probably the last good trance track from the 00' era, and pretty much signified the death of trance. -

Hypnotic, deep, trippy, takes you on a bit of a journey, right? Well surely that is the definition of what 'trance' should do. Not horrible cheesy breakdowns, marching drums and saccharine sweet melodies. -

Strange..I put this track in my latest mix a couple of days ago. And to rugogs if you consider that shit then you might as well condemn all Basic Channel and all affiliated lables as shit too. -

Agree it's not trance.
.It is just early Techno.
Depends what you consider early. Early-ish maybe. Definitely the first wave of minimal purist Techno. Third or fourth wave of Techno in my opinion. Technically, early Techno is mid 1980s.
I'm going to try not to go on a tangent. But just to say, however much I like and respect Basic Channel. This is the type of techno I'm actually sick of. Everyone has imitated ever since. It hasn't changed that much since the mid 90s. -

Yes it is techno, but I was making the point that the characteristics of that track meet the definition of what should be 'trance'. A lot of tracks that are categorised as 'trance' are anything but if you think about the definition logically. -

EDT: it might be from a Google search I made on Villalobos. Help is appreciated though. -

Actually. I like the original "Boeing Mix" from 1990 of that, always have. The subsequent remixes can sit on my middle finger. At the time of the first remixes "1992" I liked the "Sign Of The Time Mix" due to its old school electro rhythm and not the usual four to the floor and overdriven, industrial bass drum, but got sick of it in the end.

"Sign Of The Time Mix"
For sure, one of the best mixes. I love how they kept the original Cherchia vocals. The thing is, with tracks like age of love or café del mar, there's so much potential of creating cool mixes, but its all pretty much rehashes of the same "hit" remix. -

I personally wouldn't call it trance, but it's kinda trancey.
Tempest is much like early Richard D James. In fact I think the percussion is sampled from one of his Bubblebaths. -

Joking aside it is the best reccomendation so far... -

The thread title reminds me of that tune that goes... 'People are still playing trance it's been going on for quite a while.'
Oh wait a second. That's not trance. It's that boring euro house track from circa 1990? Actually, I think I prefer that tune from most trance :-) -

By the way, I do like that Maya track. Been playing it for years. It's kind of trancey but primitive sounding. And decidedly rough and funky. I prefer it to most well known trance classics. -
