I've written this many times, but i don't know why, my requests are always ignored (maybe some moderators or someone else, for some reason, are against me)

By the way, we need really the Style "Canzone" (or Canzone Italiana).

There are a lot of Italian singers listened in all over the world (Laura Pausini, Eros Ramazzotti, just for naming few..)

And many release here are credited wrongly to Chanson (french term).

There is also Schlager for German songs...

Why we can't have Canzone as a style?

and this for Canzone Napoletana, that is another Style, different from Canzone (but also known all over the world)

It has been noted many times that the style categories are severly lacking in certain areas, and there are always new styles popping up. Plus people don't always agree on which styles to attach.

There are a couple style options being mentioned and considered. For example, imdb-style tags, and I rather like tag clouds, though that's a bigger display than our current view. This might be folded into v4, we'll see in a week.

Moderator requests are being ignored on a regular basis as well, in fact for the last months they usually have not even been acknowledged...

This is not the case, the 'Canzone' is a true and largely confirmed style (under Pop) surely more than the useless "Illbient".

Don't need to do any "cloud" for it, just add it.

It's really a shame that a song like "Volare" (Domenico Modugno) is under the voice "Chanson" (wasn't enough the Gioconda? :D )

I know, but i was speaking about what i've asked here for years, not only for last year.

    You're absolutely righ, swattan.

    Why chanson and not 'canzone'?
  • _Ice_ over 10 years ago

    I agree with swattan...
    Please make the Style "Canzone"!

Ma anche amiamo gli italiani! (Sorry if that's complete shite, I don't really speak Italian). As others have said we know that more styles need adding and that nothing is being done about it at the moment, but I guess that it'll happen once the whole V4 business is sorted.

This is the current situation. There are too many styles to enter them all manually, especially without a description, so we are on hold for this for the moment. It is looking more and more likely that some type of tagging system will be developed, but this is not in the forefront of things ATM as we have the voting and guideline changes to do, plus Master Release and a bunch of other things. For the moment, if you can't find the style, just enter the genre.

Yes, i know, this is the reason.
But don't tell me "there are a lot of styles" because among all the styles, this is the most or one of the most important that need attention.
  • ThomDLorean over 10 years ago

Disagree. What about Beat in Rock? Canzone is important though I agree.

    Beat? Never listen.

I think instead that everyone, once in life, have listen to some "canzoni"...such as 'Volare' for example.
Many "canzoni" was also traslated in english or in other languages...

    Beat? Don't really think.

Well, everyone has heard beat. [Invalid Artist] are beat. Early Rolling Stones is beat. Hollies, Troggs, Small Faces and a lot of awesome groups from around the world like Los Bravos, Los Shakers, Tages (personal faves) are beat. It's a style that was around for a shorter period of time than canzone but arguably made a bigger impact. And don't get me started on Northern Soul...
  • swattan over 10 years ago

Ah yes, i've seen on wikipedia the origins, it's almost the same of Pop/Pop Rock (Merseybeat, Beat from Liverpool), there are also a lot of italian groups of Beat (see on wiki), but I think if you write only "Genre: Pop, Style: Beat" it could be a little bit unfair to describe Beatles's songs, don't you?
It could be an addition on Pop Rock/Rock, tho.
  • ThomDLorean over 10 years ago

Yeah, there's some good italian beat groups. [Invalid Artist], I Dik Dik, I Giganti, and a few bands only popular in Italy, like Rokes and Sorrows. I agree with what you're saying about calling the Beatles pop/beat would be discrediting them, but Beat is a style of Rock really anyway. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_music - thanks!
  • djmauri over 10 years ago

It would be a great think to add a style "Canzone Italiana".
We could accept an english word, like "Italian Song".
