Bob Dylan ‎– Street-Legal

Probably the only album of Dylan's that sounds better on CD than on vinyl. The late 90's CD remaster is far superior to this pressing.

This 2000 Simply Vinyl reissue is 100% the definitive version of the album on vinyl; the original pressing was a real botched job and the mastering is shockingly poor for a big-name major label album. In particular, the drums and bass sounded so muddy on the original that it really limits the enjoyability of that version. In 1999 the album was remixed and remastered and this pressing utilises that mix, which is VASTLY superior to the original. Everything has its own space on this version and the rhythm section finally sounds great (the cymbals, in particular, are really lovely on this version). The pressing itself is excellent and this very much is how the album always should have sounded. If you want the best version of Street-Legal on wax, pick this one up, not an original.

This looks like a bootleg, the blank disc manufacturer is written in the center of the disc.

Hi have this pressing digmushroom is Original or new mix sounds much better than cd

After this album was remastered by Don DeVito in 1999 (see r29919490), it came out sounding a whole lot better. But I still prefer the swampiness, confusion and despair in this version after listening to it daily while breaking up with the first love of my life.

Very different sound to Desire, there's quite a rich heavy sound on a lot of these songs. This was made after the custody battle for his kids and while there is not one overriding theme through the whole album, most of the songs are about failed/failing relationships, and unfortunately Dylan does tend to sound like a drunken balladeer...This is no Blood on the Tracks. The band is a lot tighter than on Desire but not so sure the big band sound goes so well with all of the tunes. Changing of the Guards and New Pony are both strong tunes, the backing singers, piano and heavy guitar riff sound good; Senor is the strongest song on the album and is alone worth the entrance fee. The album ends with Where are You Tonight (which sounds like an amalgamation of many Dylan tunes) which again utilizes the band well, but other than that the rest is a bit weak. Maybe the songs would have sounded better with a different rendering.

If you want to buy "Street-Legal" on vinyl then go for the (now deleted) Simply Vinyl reissue.
While the front cover reproduction is not so good (too much red), the music itself sounds way better than on the original release which was mastered poorly back in 1978.
Here you get the bright and fat sound of the much praised 1999 remaster that was also used for several cd versions.
So crank up the volume and give this underrated album a second chance!
