Personally I didn't care for the film itself very much, a neat new take on the tired 'searching for long lost love' premise. And, unfortunately for me, the music, while it worked very well in the film context, doesn't really work that well alone.

One thing that makes Hirasawa's soundtracks both interesting and annoying is how he re-uses older material for the it, this one utilizing content from 3(!) other projects: Philosopher's Propellor, Kun Mae, and Landscapes, the latter two being more obscure collaborative efforts on more ambient/experimental music, which he edits down to fit the film. While it is kind of nice for me to finally get to hear music from Kun Mae, which is extremely obscure by now, I still think it's kind of a cheap tactic. He also takes pieces from Philosopher's Propellor and remixes them as new pieces, which is nice, but I'd still rather hear completely new material. Less than half of the soundtrack's material is new, and three of those tracks are merely different mixes of the same piece.

There is some great material here though, but for me it isn't quite enough to meet the standard of some of his other commissioned work.
