Contains a vocal sample by Ken Kesey from the BBC documentary 'The Beyond Within: The Rise and Fall of LSD' (1987), "I believe with the advent of acid we've discovered a new to think... and it has to do with piecing together new thoughts in your mind. Why is it that people think it's so evil? What is it about it that is scares people so deeply? Even ... and if one is ... because they are afraid that there's more to reality than they have confronted. That there are doors that they're afraid to go in and they don't want us to go in there either because, if we go in, we might learn something that they don't know. And that makes us a little out of their control."

· Track 8: 139 BPM. It's been only 5 months that i discovered Posford's Psytrance (I only listened to Shpongle and Younger brother before)... and am like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
This man is just phenomenal. I tried to listen to more psytrance artists but i couldn't find the same impressions.
He's expressing his soul into music... First i listened to The Lone Deranger... i loved it, but when i heard TWISTED, i was entering a world of magical harmony.
Now I only listen to this album all day long.

It's quite a task to decipher this immortal album into mere words, but I feel obliged as plus twenty years later this album still gives me the shivers and amazes me with its technical superiority. This album was written I believe mostly in 1995, but some of it even dates back to 1994. The first Hallucinogen release ever, the LSD/Alpha Centauri 12" on Dragonfly Records, is from April 1994. So to just sum things up - the whole album was written in roughly a two-year period.

Musically speaking this album is nearly flawless in my ears. Hallucinogen has an uncanny talent in using weird yet strangely charming synth sounds and effects and manipulating them thru effect units like a mad scientist. The result? It may sound funny but the guy is still touring around the world playing these exact tracks! Okay, there's usually the combo-package with the latest Shpongle but still... this album carries such a staggering level to detail and brilliant songwriting that it still works on the dancefloor and gives you a great trip - even without stimulants.

I love the almost "punk rock" attitude Hallucinogen has on this album. It's raw, powerful, twisted (as the title would suggest...) and mysterious all at the same time. 'Twisted' feels like a perfect example of that 1994/1995 musical period when Goa trance was taking its form and was free of any pre-defined concepts how psychedelic music ought to sound. At the same time its maturity was years ahead of the game and still continues to inspire countless of artists - yours truly as an example. I truly believe 'Twisted' is the magnum opus of Hallucinogen. Now, I do think also 'TLD' is a great album, it might excel this album in its technicality, but it lacks the certain rawness and craziness that make 'Twisted' one of the standout releases in all 90s electronic music.

Simon Posford anal penetrates Martin Freeland with his debut album Twisted, considered by many as the quitessential album that defined a new era. Well, to me its good but not good enough to be enlisted into my personal favs since all tracks other than LSD lack creativity to my humble ears, artistically its successor The Lone Deranger surpasses Twisted in every respect, being both hypnotic and melodic at the same time.

I first ordered this album from the UK to the US back in around 1996. I consider this to be THE landmark psytrance album everyone interested in the genre must listen to start to finish. It's pounding and relentless in the audio trip it takes you on from start to finish. There is a "live" version of LSD which is my favorite psytrance track of all time but the album version still gives me chills as well. You simply must listen to this album along with some of the Rhino Records compilations from the mid-90s to really understand psytrance and what it's about.

Twentieth anniversary of its first release next year and it still stands up to the most intense scrutiny. What a lot of people fail to appreciate is that no one had done anything quite like this before. When Simon Postford recorded Twisted he set the standard by which all that followed would be judged, it is without doubt a work of true genius. He created synth noises previously unheard and did things with established sounds that no one had ever imagined. The bass lines, the drum patterns, the rhythm section, are crafted with consummate mastery. The way he uses voice samples was something new and very individual too, just listen to the way he uses them on Shamanix and you'll understand what I mean. The constantly changing pace and the whole oscilitaing, pulsating, rhythmic musical ecstacy is breath taking. It has its darker moments, few and far between, but the vast majority is blissful euphoria, the balance, the weight given to the lighter and darker passages seems carefully considered and has been achieved with great skill. There is no other album that gets my heart racing, my hair literally standing on end like this one, there isn't a weak track on it. When my pal Danny brought this album round to my house when it was first released and I listened to it for the first time I knew I was hearing something very special. It makes a lot of what is produced today sound, well, boring actually. Although the sounds are very crisp and polished now there are no true inovators in my opinion, the music of today is largely formulaic and comprised from modern variations of an old theme, a theme born from the mind of Simon Postford twenty years ago, Simon, you're a hard act to follow and have left an indelible mark on electronic music!

This is by far the cream of the crop when it comes to Goa trance every producer of the genre must look at this release with a certain amount of "Awe and Respect !! Every track is crafted and shaped to perfection its honey to the ears a magical journey through the best Goa the world has heard. The intro to LSD captures the ambivalence surrounding "Hallucinogenic's".The track oscillates up and down and turns full bliss midway through, probably his master piece not forgetting "Shamanix" To say these two tracks our his greatest is sacrilege to the other 6 mind blowing tracks on the album there all brilliant and unique even by todays standards if it was released tomorrow it would still be a classic and a great introduction to new people who don't no the genre. This album was my entry point. I cant help comparing most other Goa by this album but the truth is you don't get any better than "Hallucinogens Twisted". I would recommend to all lovers of electronic music.
