Label founded in London UK in February 1991 by Caspar Pound. Had sister labels Ascension Records (for dance music), Sapho (for more avant-garde experimental releases) and Rising High USA (in America). Rising High Productions Ltd is a dead company but the labels are not defunct - they are owned by Caspar's daughter Sapho. The music is being reissued to digital over 2015, some remastered.
Is it just me or does it seem like (at least for the early 90's releases) there were more stamped white label copies around than standard releases? It's crazy but probably 60 or 70% of my RH records are stamped white labels. Anywho, love this label, which was a staple in every DJ's bag in the early 90's. It was impossible to listen to a set back in 92 without at least a track from UR, one from ESP, one from Force Inc and one from Rising High. RIP Caspar Pound.
Can't believe that this label is so low in price for many of them . Since that label was in high demand and had great quality as music . Also it was very expensive back in the 90's to get such 12"s and compilations .
Not sure why this label is so underrated ? Since it is a pioneer of the electronic music .
A colleague of mine used to work there back in the early 90's. He has a windbreaker jacket with the company logo on the back which is pretty cool. I wonder if it would be worth something to Sapho.
Rising High is one of my favourite labels - with an excellent back-catalogue stretching from early rave releases, through quality chill-out productions and classic ambient (and trance) licences from Fax, to a broad range of techno and trip-hop in later years. I'm particularly fond of the Secret Life Of Trance series which served as my first introduction to so many great artists: Hardfloor, Sven Väth, Mixmaster Morris, Air Liquide, Baby Doc, Dave Angel, Pete Namlook... and of course RHC!
