Close to the World is a ghetto and the live album

This is a solid pressing with great detail. It's a bit mid-range heavy for my taste, which can be quickly addressed with some minor EQ adjustments. The album itself is a mixed bag. The title track is an extended funky groove that highlights the best of what War is known for. "Hey Señorita" is a worthy Latin-infused effort made in the mold of the band's biggest hits, "Lowrider" and "The Cisco Kid." The album is worth the price of admission for these two tracks, especially considering you can pick up a near mint copy for $5 to $10 without too much trouble. The rest of the album ranges from uninspired to pleasant 70s sitcom music with occasional fantastic moments sprinkled in. So, while far from their best work, it's worth the price of admission. Probably more so today than at the time.

Let me take the opportunity to point out there is a special place in hell for those who write dedications in ink on classic records.

Does anyone know the story behind the album art? Everyone in line is in costumes, but that guy in the KKK outfit is kind of creepy. Also, yet another great album by WAR. Didn't even know it existed until I ran across it at the local record store. was a no brainer pick up and I wasn't disappointed when I got it home and spun it for the first time.

It seems more often than not this record is overlooked for whatever reason. Everyone I've ever showed it to has fell in love with it. Jazz, disco, funk, and smooth lowrider soul are all present and mix beautifully on the record and despite the varied display of genres, the record manages to flow together with ease. Start to finish it is a masterpiece and sounds like the embodiment of what you could imagine Los Angeles felt like in 1977.

The seven tin soldiers. Seminal. The harmonica on this song is the stuff of dreams.
