Baden Powell – Estudos

A lovely version of this album, the sound scape is very open with a smart use of reverb, the instruments have presence and are warm and detailed with several emotive moments of resonance coming out of guitar body. The bass tones and percussion are not buried which is always good but the symbols one track 1 side B are strangely muted, meanwhile the mix is not as straightforward as expected there are some very nice stereo pans.

My copy was supposed to be a mint copy, and it might be… the sound is excellent good separation and detail, but there is surface noise in parts and both sides of the album features the soft crackling and pops I recall from when I listened to albums back in the 1970s. Maybe more albums back then had that kind of crackle. This is a album that could use a remastering and repressing. I think it could be outstanding listening experience. For now I’m enjoying it, but in that authentic vintage car way in which the smell of the engine is part of the experience.
