Elvis Costello – Spike

Nice record by e.c. Def a production of it’s time- sounds compressed; however my single-lp version has great sound- nice and full, no extraneous noise.

Disc two, for the second half of both sides, has a background "hiss". I"m happy, but it's not perfect. I also don't think this is a major step up from the original pressing (which I also own.)

Mine is quite weird : it is a green vinyl like the limited edition but the hype sticker is different (without any notion of numbered limited edition) and I can't find its number like all my other MOV releases... Anyone has this ?

I ended up with #44 and both lps are flawless.
My previous go to for this album was the cd as it smashes the original vinyl release.
Nothing but happy with this one.

I’ve clearly been one of the lucky ones with my copy and am very happy with the sound across all four sides (a bit better than the tape copy I got as a kid in 1989!). I’ve always thought that the album got overly criticised after the initial glowing reviews and hearing it in such a nice edition reinforces that view.

Not as happy with this Spike reissue as I’d hoped. It sounds amazing in spots but I’ve tried two copies and both suffer from background hiss/static, particularly noticeable closer to the groove. It practically ruins Baby Plays Around for me and that’s even using the “magic” feature on my Puffin pre-amp which usually cleans such problems right up.

Packaging is top notch and it’s great to have this album spread across two LPs but the non-musical sound artifacts on this album are a major distraction, particularly on sides C/D of the two copies I’ve tried. I expect better from MOV from past experience.

Thank god for this label!!

This recording has always warranted a double LP spread and MOV have outdone themselves. The solid light green records are flat, free of defect and nice and quiet. This records never sounded great on vinyl especially as the sides progress but now its better than ever and allowed to shine as always it should have.
Maybe the gatefold could be abit higher quality but it will do and it should last.

Really, properly happy!

Music On Vinyl does it again! Whereas audiophile labels like Mobile Fidelity and Speakers Corner oftend disappoint, Music On Vinyl-reissues usually are
flawless.

A fantastic sounding reissue on nice light green vinyl, vinyl is flat and no background noise at all, I am very pleased with it
