Motörhead – No Remorse

Volume level's all over the place, but when it's loud, it kicks some major ass.

Is the writing credit for Iron Horse incorrect? Everywhere else it is credited to Taylor/Tramp/Brown.

Also, the song Motorhead does NOT have dots over the second o - only the band's name does.

This cd has "Leaving Here" and "Louie Louie" omitted from the LP version due to time limitation of the cd.

Brilliant pressing and packaging. Motorhead classics plus 5 new songs (by memory). Should be commanding big $$$ and no doubt will in the future. Great double album listening.

Sound quality is ok but there are volume differences between the tracks.

Nice compilation even if not all my favourite tracks are present ("I Got Mine", "One Track Mind", "Dead Men Tell No Tales" for instance). OIS contains all lyrics and vinyls sound fine even if a bit quiet.

Anyone know why this is listed in Motorhead albums, and not compilations?

Motörhead was in a state of flux in the early 1980s, with crucial original members departing in search of approval beyond the heavy metal circuit. Such uncertainty and internal friction led to further departures and before long Lemmy was the last man standing until replacing the defectors. Upon the recruitment of new members, the label were decidedly unimpressed, concluding that this line-up lacked the chemistry of the original power trio. Calculatedly, the label ordered the swift release of an anthology instead of a new album, effectively consigning the band to history. In an attempt to compromise and also counteract the label's intentions, the band recorded additional songs to accompany the standards. To the surprise of the label, Motörhead still packed a punch even without its founding members, and the very welcome new material - "Killed By Death", "Snaggletooth", "Steal Your Face" and "Locomotive" - proved that there was still life in the old dog yet.

"No Remorse" - its title possibly derived from "Fast And Loose", a track that featured on the "Ace Of Spades" - went on to be heralded as a great survey of the band's imperial output, perhaps even a classic album. Just as every self-respecting metalhead was once obliged to own a copy of "Ace Of Spades" to increase their credibility, this compilation functioned as a conduit to the band's back catalogue, so far from being the death warrant it was supposed to be, it highlighted everything they were renowned for. New fans acquired during the 1980s off the back of this compilation would soon be able to purchase the band's core albums on CD, which not only renewed their strength and restored them in terms of commercial success and public recognition, it would also stand them in good stead with their label.

Motörhead never altered their formula at any point from their inception, and therein lies the reason for their enduring popularity. Lemmy is the supreme common denominator throughout; his distorted, rhythmic bass riffs, gripping lyrics and instantly recognizable gravelly rasp was not only a contributory factor to the band's furious music, it became integral. Without Lemmy's intervention and legendary persona, Motörhead would have died prematurely. As the band's only continuous member, he is now an irrefutable, enduring icon, representative of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll idiom. Despite his fast and vicious playing style being based on punk, Lemmy's presence and prowess cemented the band's reputation as pioneers of thrash and speed metal. He dominates each and every track in harmony with the instrumentalists; the raucous riffs, double bass drumming and in-your-face vocal delivery being far more tuneful and cadenced than you would expect, theirs is a wall-of-sound you will never grow tired of hearing.

"No Remorse" is the definitive compilation of the band, arranging their most powerful, thunderous ubiquitous headbangers - "Ace Of Spades", "Bomber", "Stay Clean", and "Overkill" - alongside lesser-known live and stray recordings. A perfect introduction to the band's rambunctious, manic brand of rock and roll, this age-old collection is essential for collectors and established fans alike.

Silent pressing, awesome sound quality- I dig the alternate performance of "Motorhead". Fantastic collection of songs- a must have for any Motorhead fan!
