Punk Style Overview
Punk Music Description
The roots of Punk lie in the garage band movement that followed the so called British invasion of the mid 1960s. This first generation of punk bands were raw, noisy, and with minimal musical expertise—something that has been a trademark of many punk bands since. These early bands were influences on Glam, Heavy Metal, and the second generation of punks.
The second generation evolved in the early to mid 1970s in the urban centres of the US & The UK and spread around the world. It too was heavily rhythmic, raw, often with a Power Pop edge and lyrically intense.
Punk evolved into Hardcore, Post Punk and other styles and continues today.
