Notes

The debut studio album with the band of the same name Led Zeppelin was released in 1968.

This album was actually recorded as an album by The New Yardbirds, but released as Led Zeppelin when Chris Dreja, formerly a member of The Yardbirds, informed them that they did not have the rights to The New Yardbirds name so a new band name was confirmed late October 1968.

For the first Led Zeppelin album in the UK, there are at least nine known vinyl red/plum 6-digit Deluxe cat# versions. To help simplify Release Notes, it may be easier to add the Version Number as below (Plus any potential variants to that numbered Version):

1. Label: This Version 1 has Turquoise sleeve lettering and Superhype Music/Jewel Music Publishing credits labels.
2. Label: This Version 2 as Version 1, but this issue has on side one the "Superhype mis-credit label", label lists songs 1, "3", 4 as Superhype Music and then 3 again as Jewel Music.
3. Label: This Version 3 has Orange sleeve lettering with grey stripe across the base of the front cover, uncorrected stamped matrix number and (Superhype Music/Jewel Music Publishing credits labels).
4. Label: This Version 4 as Version 3, but with difference of the corrected stamped matrix number and again with Superhype mis-credit on label side one as Version 2).
5. Label: This Version 5 has Orange sleeve lettering with the corrected stamped matrix number on both sides which have the second 8 scratched out and (Superhype Music/Jewel Music Publishing credits labels).
6. Label: The Version 6 has Orange sleeve lettering with Grey stripe at bottom on front cover and without Superhype credits with instead Warner Bros/7 Arts. Publishing credit printed in one line on the labels.
7. Label: The Version 7 as Version 6, but with Warner Bros/7 Arts. Publishing credit printed in two lines on the labels.
8. Label: The Version 8 as Version 7, but without the Grey stripe at bottom on front sleeve.
9. Label: The Version 9 as Version 6, but has Warner Bros/7 Arts /Jewel Music Publishing credits printed in one line on label side One and Superhype /Jewel Music on label side Two printed in two lines.
10. Label: The Version 10 as Version 6, but has Warner Bros./7. Arts Jewel Music Publishing credits printed in one line on label side One and Warner Bros. 7. Arts Jewel Music Publishing credits printed in one line on label side Two but without the "/" in between Warner Bros. and 7. Arts.
11. Label: The Version 11 as Version 6 with the Warner Bros./7. Arts Jewel Music Publishing credits printed on both labels but the track listing text is spread out. Sleeve: Version 1 with Turquoise sleeve lettering with grey stripe across the base of the front cover and corrected stamped matrix number

Super muddy, not a great pressing at the surface, not a great record. However, I do like this pressing with the treble cranked to 11 on my modern integrated amp. I would not recommend grabbing this for the sake of playing.

What an amazing pressing! I found this used recently and it was like finding pure gold! Such a dynamic pressing!

This is incredible and it’s isn’t even so much about the bass as it is how crystal clear it is and the instrument separation like the modern audiophile pressing strives for. The punch to this one is something else. Easily my best LZ1 although I don’t have any UKs or Classic. I agree with everything the prior reviewer states and I am sure the Monarch pressing does not hurt either. Another George Piros masterpiece.

Not sure what kind of system the 2 reviewers below were using but this is a very dynamic issue. Super clear with great separation of parts. Vocals are best I've heard. I have a super clean copy so perhaps this helps but I can only recommend this pressing.

I still can't figure out what year this was pressed in. The label suggests 73-75, but the original atlantic Insert has record advertisements that were all released in 1971. My copy sounds great, it's warm and well mixed with little zero to little surface noise.

I prefer this to the George Piros cut. While the GP has better separation, it doesn't have the punch that the Pete Norman has. Here there is more warmth and rockers such as How Many More Times and Dazed And Confused clearly benefit by this treatment where the bottom end features strongly. If you prefer tunes like Good Times, Bad Times or Communication Breakdown, then maybe go for the GP. This Pete Norman cut rocks!

I know it would be better with photos, but I don't know where to upload pix on this site. I got this record from an old dead friend of mine who has lived years in Germany and Spain. He probably bought it in those countries in the seventies or eighties, and visibly never played it.

So, I add my "very special version" of this LP. Dunno what I'll do with it, sell it or keep it. I have no idea of what would be a decent price. Even if this kind of could interest somebody. Here it is :
LED ZEPPELIN / LED ZEPPELIN (588 171 STEREO)
                      Lettering in blue
                      Matt cover
Record center : magenta, with mentions Polydor Records Limited, P 1969, Made in Gt. Britain
                      Credits : Side 1 & 2 : Superhype Music & Jewel Music
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, SIDE ONE : THE FOUR WELL KNOWN LED ZEP SONGS
BUT ON SIDE 2 : FIVE SONGS BY THE VELVET UNDERGROUND (Heroin, There She Goes, I'll Be Your Mirror, I'm Gonna Move Right In, Black Angels Death' Song)
Record and cover : Mint / Mint as new
