Profile:

'Purveyors of high quality experimental music since 1995'.
Started by Jon Tye.

Lo Recordings has been responsible for an innovative catalogue of music that has spanned everything from house, easy listening, ambient, electronica, drum and bass, music concrete and country and western.

Their catalogue of over 50 releases includes recordings by Aphex Twin, Blur, Mike Flowers and Squarepusher to name but a few. They were also responsible for 1998's 'Root' project which distributed 30 one-minute guitar pieces by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth amongst artists as diverse as David Bowie, Scanner, Gavin Turk, Stereolab and Angela Bulloch resulting in an album (packaged in a hoover bag) and exhibition of epic proportions.

Lo released music from the minimalism of Mileece to the new wave punk funk of The Chap as well as delving into the mysteries of 70s library music they remain one of the UK's most consistently unusual labels. Further releases include music from Red Snapper, Luke Vibert and Moog legend Jean Jacques Perrey.

'Resplendent in divergence' is a phrase that could have been made for them.

Often forgotten label that never really got the attention it deserved.

There's nothing like Lo Recordings. I enjoy their releases since the music captures something nostalgic. The Lo complications are some of the best I own.

I like it if labels like Lo Recordings have the ambition to investigate new possibilities in electronic music and to develop something other than the most artists out there do.
