Established in 2001 by founder and mastering engineer Joe Reagoso. Friday Music is home to a wide array of Classic Rock artists featuring re-issues of classic albums as well as new material from some of Classic Rock's pioneers.
...the two Monkees Missing Links LPs I picked up (volumes 2 and 3) were the best-sounding and best-pressed Friday Music titles I've come across, but there's a catch: None of the original liner notes from the CD editions are included, which for a collection of outtakes and rarities is a pretty glaring oversight. The original compilers/producers of the project were also not credited, which seems unnecessarily harsh. Lastly, the covers say the projects were mastered from the original tapes, which seems HIGHLY unlikely...so, nice pressings, but done in a rather callous manner...
hi all i have Elvis first album on Friday music and i have no issues at all on the record sounds great and wasn't warp at all i like the gate fold cover as well
No one has anything good to say about this label. Does anyone have the Allman Brother Shades of Two Worlds Friday reissue from last year? There are 2 different colored vinyls. I was wondering if this one sounds good? Any of the other issues?
Ahh, Friday Music. You've tempted me with various releases over the past few years. The pictures of the colored vinyl you make always look pretty. But then I receive them (usually after a lengthy delay), and I play them, and .... they suck. Done with you.
Seeing a lot of negative reviews for Friday (unsurprising). So let me give you some advice - if a MusicOnVinyl pressing exists of a Friday record, get the MoV one.
I'm a rather big fan of David Bowie - with his 1990s output being my favourite. I have both MoV and Friday pressings from that time and can hands down say that MoV is better quality in terms of packaging (the sleeves are immaculate and they actually come with proper poly-lined innersleeves) and the records are great quality too (love my blue copy of 'Earthling' - sound quality is perfect).
Seriously though, FridayMusic aren't worth the money considering they use awful, cumbersome tri-gatefold sleeves and send out warped records repeatedly with little to no protection. So if you're a Bowie fan deciding whether to get the MoV or Friday pressing of... let's say 'hours...' (because I own both versions). Dear God get the MoV one if you have any sense. Seriously, the Friday pressing of 'hours...' is a joke though - crap sound quality, artwork that has somehow been made so washed out and pixelated that I've seen better bootlegs!
If you're a Bowie fan like me, the only reason I can think of that would mean you'd have to buy a Friday product, is if you want the full version of 'Outside' (its my favourite album of all time so I took that risk). For some reason MoV aren't reissuing that variant, just the cut down one - meaning that you're stuck with the cumbersome tri-gatefold and crap quality records.
Moral of the story - avoid Friday Music like it was the coronavirus, and buy MoV where possible instead.
I just got for 8 bucks new sealed from 2013 Todd Rundgren The Tortured Artist Effect. Yup the warp and the tone arm looks likes it's shifting like not playing straight... The vinyl sounds kind of good but looks like a old MCA record matte finish... No reflection on this one... Vinyl just looks scruffy. But the one positive side if this came in a paper sleeve from 2013 there would mold paper markings all over both sides.... Ever see those. I have the Mahavishnu Inner Mounting Flame the fake clear coating was a nice touch ever hear the Speakers Corner they wrote me and said they used a master tape and Mark Wilder no they used a copy tape Germany was given probably in 1971 listen to the last track the tape sounds like it's flaking off the reel ... I don't know about the inner photo just throws me. I see a pattern of artists he can use and who he " can not " use.
Totally agree. It seems every pressing is flawed in some way. Most of my Friday music pressings are warped. Those that aren't have significant surface noise. Very disappointing. But I never learn...I keep hoping they'll fix these hiccups as I continue to buy the releases. I"m allowed to complain because I continue to buy. HA HA!!
Things I like about this company: joe reagoso masters the reissues really well, even uses analog tape and a AAA remastering path, sometimes they even use Kevin Gray. I love the way the records sound. High definition. Top notch for sure. Things I don't like: It's just that every pressing I've ever got from them has an issue. Even though they use "RTI," I really don't like RTI, their quality control is shit and the plastic sleeves they issue their records in are damaging to the actual vinyl. Their pressings have been subjected to mild outer edge warps in my experience. (Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride, Mahavishnu Orchestra's The Inner Mounting Flame, Ron Woods' I've Got !y Own Album To Do, Muddy Waters Muddy At Newport, John Lee Hooker Don't Turn Me a From a Your Door: John Lee Hooker Sings The Blues). Those that don't have warps have pieces of paper pressed into the vinyl (Weather Report's Live In Tokyo, Sly & The Family Stone Antology). And those that don't have garbage pressed into the wax have discolorations in the color vinyl or were sealed hot causing marks in the vinyl (The Byrds -Sweetheart of the Rodeo, Todd Rudgren's A Wizard A Star). Just picked up Iggy Pop's New Values by Friday Music for RSD and it came with the inner sleeve all crumpled up in one corner causing the vinyl to be exposed and get marked up yet again. I would really just like a pristine pressing from this label one day.
