Long before "full-on" became the established trend in psy, let alone the pisstake it has since become, there was Ultrabeat. I believe most of the artists that released through Ultrabeat used trackers. Realising that a piece such as Symbiote's Phantasmagoria was created on a 486 PC running a tracker is a pretty mind-blowing experience akin to listening to any selected Ultrabeat release, as is reaslising most of them were more inventive, melodic, creative and unique than most commercially released psy-trance.

I admit I do favour Symbiote's tracks, as well as Mantis (want some dark psy? This guy did it far better than any crappy Penta album AND with melodies), and Loose Id (key changes take your average goa/psy piece and make them special, just as this guy knew on Cube). I still listen to these tunes on a regular basis, and dip my toes in the commercial psy scene only to realise - yet again - Ultrabeat's artists "artistically" - shall we say - knew, felt, lived and breathed everything goa and psy-trance empitomise, to a far superior degree than their established, commercial counterparts.

And yes, Symbiote's EP is equally creative, inspiring and euphoric as both Hallucinogen albums. Try it NOW.
