UK label run by Rob Playford originally from the small lounge of a house in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, UK, before relocating to the second floor of the former Trident Studios building.
So has anyone else noticed that the website has been updated with 2021 tags and contact info, does this mean it's coming back in some form? I know about the Over Shadow label so I don't think it will be anything to do with that as that seems more of a collective and a continuation of where Moving Shadow left off. I'm just curious now.
From Hardcore to Jungle to Drum&Bass, Moving Shadow covered a musical palette that few labels in electronic dance music have. It helped launching the careers of some of the biggest names in the scene; Omni Trio, E-Z Rollers, Dom&Roland, Technical Itch and Aquasky, to name just a few. Labelboss Rob Playford, although always a bit in the 'shadows', deserves all the credit a man can get for keeping the overall quality of the label on such a high level. Forever in the mind, body and soul! Respect is everyting.
The best Hardcore, Hardcore Jungle, Jungle and Drum n Bass label ever. Rob made sure all bases were covered, pure vibes from every corner of moving shadow and its artists. A label that was for me the musical book of the scene with a beginning, an absolutely amazing middle and massive end, trust me I have not forgotten the other great labels from back in the day, including the other two giants that are still going Metalheadz and Reinforced to a degree.
Every label has a dip and honesty Moving Shadow never had one, they were constantly finding new artists, and the established artists were constantly bringing new ideas to the table. Shadow had something other labels just did not, listen to the array and variety of tracks released. The last few years was something just unreal, MX EP's, Grand Theft Auto MX Radio, Dom and Roland, Tech Itch, Rascal and Clone, Calyx, Kemal, EZ Rollers, Omni Trio and I could go on. Top table music of the highest order and it was a dame shame it ended abruptly. We were truly blessed, oh so blessed with music from the Moving Shadow crew, Shadow was on another level. From hardcore too Jungle, to drum and bass they just had and created it all.
this label was one of the key components of the underground urban dance music scene in the UK during the 90's. They were instrumental in the transformation of hardcore/ jungle into drum & bass around '94 - '95, and more or less invented the atmospheric drum & bass sub-genre single handedly. Their 1991 release by 2 Bad Mice "Bombscare" is probably the single most important rave hardcore tracks ever produced.
Just a damn shame that this label folded. Some absolute classics tracks and artists released on this great label. Drum & Bass history was made during its formative years in the early to mid nineties. lovely memories. RIP Moving Shadow.
A legendary label. MS released so many classics that's it's real sad that they don't release tunes anymore. The label that started off Dom & Roland, Tech Itch & Ray Keith to name but a few.
