Munich City Nights

Munich City Nights image

Profile:

"Munich City Nights" is actually the name of the series and not the label's. The label is stated as "Enigma Records in Culver City, CA", which can be found on the back of the cover. But that exists just as little as the one stated on the back, that the series is also available on vinyl and cassette. The catalog number 7 73502-2 is also the same on all CDs. The CDs were not made in the USA either, but in Munich. The idea was to collect rare tracks on CD, which you could only buy e.g. on record exchanges ("Plattenbörsen") because they were imports from the USA and Canada. Volume 1 contains the track "Russ Ballard - The Story Of Making Of The Fire Still Burns". At that time you had to pay more than 400 DM for these 12 inch alone. Volume 1 was initially sold individually. The original series includes 56 CDs. These were sold in a box of 8 CDs each. The covers of the original CDs were printed on paper of better quality. The cheap imitators can be recognized by colored paper and black instead of white background. The series with the black background was also referred to as a "Einzelserie" because the CDs could be bought individually. It contains (as far as I know) 9 CDs (Vol. 2 - 10). There was also a "Neon" series that was numbered with Roman numerals. Both series, the "Neon Series" and the "Einzelserie" have nothing to do with the original series.

Addendum: There are a total of 96 different CDs from the Munich City Nights Series!

Vol. 1 - 56 Original Series: The covers of the original CDs were printed on paper of better quality with white background.
There are also 3 different empty collection boxes available.
For Vol. 1 - 16 there is a black box for 16 CDs, for Vol. 17 - 26 there is a dark blue box for 10 CDs and for Vol. 27 - 36 there is a red box for 10 CDs.
But these boxes are very hard to find. The track list of the CDs is also printed on both sides of the respective box. These boxes are very stable and made of hard cardboard with a very good print.

Vol. 57 - 66 Cheap Imitators: The covers of the CDs were also printed on paper of better quality with white background.

Vol. 67 - 76 Cheap Imitators: The covers of the CDs were printed on worse paper with white background.

Vol. 1 - 10 Single Series - Cheap Imitators (also called parallel series): The covers of the CDs were printed on worse paper and black instead of white background, except Vol. 10 were printed on paper of better quality with white background!

Vol. XI - XX Neon Series - Cheap Imitators ( also called parallel series): Numbered with Roman numerals in neon yellow jewel cases and the covers of the CDs were printed on paper of better quality with white background.
