Parent company of the Motown label, founded in Detroit, Michigan, but relocated entirely to California in 1972. Sometime U.S. distributor of CTI Records, Kudu, Gull, Manticore. Succeeded in 1988 by Motown Record Company, L.P. after sale of assets to MCA Records. Legally operated under this name from 4 April 1960 to 28 July 1975, and again from 17 October 1975 to 30 June 1988.
