F Communications

Profile:

French Electronic Dance label, founded in 1994 by Eric Morand and Laurent Garnier as a successor of Fnac Music Dance Division, 'After E comes F'. Also called fcom.
In 1999, it was named "one of France's premier labels specializing in electronic music". In 2003, the record label had a turnover of 2.4 million euros. Label stopped in 2008.

FCom is the result of the meeting at the end of the 80s of two pioneers of the French electronic scene; Laurent GARNIER and Eric MORAND.
Their first collaboration dates from 1991, when Eric MORAND suggested that Laurent GARNIER release his first pieces on FNAC MUSIC-DANCE DIVISION, of which he was artistic director. Three years later, after having initiated the first French techno/house label with international influence, we decided to write a new chapter in electronic culture by creating F Communications in April 1994. It features the artists who made the reputation of FNAC MUSIC; Laurent GARNIER, Ludovic NAVARRE, SHAZZ, SCAN

New talents are opening the label to other sounds of other styles. The creativity of the artists pushes the limits of the label. The slogan “electronic with no limit” is essential. Explore, search, Innovate. Experiment without an immediate obligation to achieve results. Priority to emotion, spontaneity.

This experiment is musical but above all a global vision of the label. By launching Laurent GARNIER's first albums "Shot in the Dark" and ST GERMAIN "Boulevard" in 1994, FCOM confirmed that electro can be listened to at home. The success of these two albums established FCOM as a label that discovers and develops talent.
The label's influence is immediately global with more than 70% of sales or concert/DJ dates outside France establishing FCOM as the leading French electronic label. Situation confirmed by the success of MR OIZO “Flat beat” in 1999, the album “Newcomer” in 2002 or ALEXKID with “Come with me”.

But more than sales, FCOM's success is its longevity, its image as a quality nursery. Unclassifiable. Unpredictable.

The FCOM evenings, the artists' concerts, the DJs' sets have contributed greatly to the reputation of the label. Whether in clubs, or in festivals (Montreux Jazz, Vielles Charrues, etc.) these are always great moments of meeting between artists and FCOM fans.

We cannot explain FCOM without talking about the visual identity of the label which revealed the graphic design talents of Geneviève Gauckler (1994/1998), Seb Jarnot (1998/2002) or HotSpot Design . Same thing for videos for which we have always favored carte blanche to young directors or artist/director meetings.

FCOM is performances or collaborations at the Palais de Tokyo or Beaubourg. It is also a Lieu Commun launched in May 2005 in Paris with Matali Crasset and Ron Orb. Three universes; Music, design and fashion coming together, three creators, the same vision. A store, a place of welcome, exchanges, sharing where you will discover the entire FCOM catalog and surprises.

FCOM is finally a hotel, the HI Hotel in Nice for which we are doing all the sound design. From the nine room concepts, to the spa, including the swimming pool or the HI bar, all the spaces of this hotel designed by Matali Crasset are bathed in a musical selection made by FCOM. An innovative approach to the relationship with music for an experimental and innovative hotel.

So actually, “what is FCOM”? A label ? A creative bubble? A human adventure?
