Just found my opinion in the comments here from 2012. Still agree with what i wrote. Some good spare tracks here and there but that's it, its no way like before. Leafcutter John's release is the closest thing to the BC golden era.

Since The Inheritors the label seems to be mostly about Holden. Look back: only 2 releases from 2003 to 2013... then from 2013 hes already done 11 releases. He started getting rid of most artists because supposedly they were taking advantage of his label's name to get popular. I think he smokes too much weed and has paranoia or overthinks too much.

I cant believe how i went from admiring this guy like a hero to despising him. There were even internet blogs and forums just for this label, how often do you see that?

Why are these releases so strangely expensive?

There's something about the artwork for Border Community's releases that gives me a sense of purity, peace, and well being everytime I look at it. I can't quite put my finger on it but its almost like I feel like a child again, just for a brief moment. I buy these releases just as much for the visual art as I do the sound. If you're deciding whether or not to buy one of these releases, (especially from BC10 going forward), remember that you want to approach it as listening experience first and foremost. If you try to imagine yourself mixing them on a dancefloor its not always going to work out. That's not the intended use in my opinion. Although a portion of the tracks are workable in a typical dj set, the songs are more for the mind than they are for the body =)

I have heard sky was pink, outhouse & many more tracks of border community, i have to tell that all of them just make me feel different and they can also change the feelings of the moment, for me is probably the only (more or less) label that keeps a way and produces good music and not toons of releases every month. Anyway the last track of Mr. Nathan - You Are Here - just make me feel like on the sky, for me is the best IDM, techno etc. track i have heard, it only brings me shine on all that crappy techno produced every day.

Border Community got me hooked when I first heard Avus - Real in a club. I ran over to the DJ for the title and saw some weird windmill on the cover. Remembered it and after that started buying every single border community record I could get my hands on.
The fact I have all but 15BC (only because I haven't seen it in the shops yet) says enough about the extreme quality this label keeps on pushing!

Fourteen releases in over three years of existence might not be much, but Border Community is all about quality, not quantity (sadly not the case with most labels).
Their catalog includes "The Sky Was Pink", "Soopertrack" and "Gazebo" - three superb tracks that have proven in different ways that dance music can be made with intelligence and emotion at the same time.
If you thought that house music was dull and burned out, these people want to make you think again.

Probably the most interesting independent electronic dance label around at the moment. So far, they have yet to release anything that hasn't been of the utmost quality, and I consider the Border Community name alone to be a guarantee of excellence. In my opinion, I think any progressive, trance, house or techno DJ would do well to buy every release that comes out of this label. Some of the quirkiest baselines, most twisted melodies, and all around experimental and original tracks released in recent years are on this label: this is what the future of EDM looks like, and that future is bright.
