In November 1976 Neil Bogart's Casablanca Records Inc. merged with Filmworks Inc. to form Casablanca Record And Filmworks, Inc. Filmworks Inc. was a small film production company headed by Peter Guber.

In 1977, Polygram acquired a minority stake in the company. From October 1st, Casablanca Record And Filmworks, Inc. products were distributed by Phonodisc, Inc., Polygram's US distribution company. Polygram gained full control of the company in 1980.
