WARNING!!! Don't EVER buy anything from this label. I don't know how it's even possible to get this low quality standard that these guys have. Do they press their records in some cheap chinese pressing plant or what?

This label is a good summary of everything wrong with the vinyl market nowadays.

Boycott this awful excuse for a label. Their product is garbage and they soak up the market for high quality reissues. Don't buy from them... ever!!

This horrible label uses these stickers on most if not all of their rip-off reissues: 180 GRAM VINYL If you see this sticker in the bins jus' pass on by you'll be glad you did....

Second try with their vinyl pressing of Sparklehorse's vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot, but LPs look trashed, straight out of the wraps. Scuffs, dents, visible imperfections galore. Christ I wish these crappy "jump on the band wagon" outfits that take killer albums and put the CD into 180 gram pieces of trash to cash in on the vinyl revival would be knocked out of business by those willing to do it correctly, mastered for vinyl, pressed by professionals. Between Plain Recordings and 4 Men w Beards, many of my favorite albums are only getting so-called vinyl releases that are insults to both the artists and the format. There is no friggin' point in transferring a CD to 180 gram vinyl, and to add insult to injury, having it pressed at a plant that must have decided to use scrap vinyl from their vinyl siding business to pull in some extra dollars. This "label" sucks.

I ordered the 2 Butthole Surfers reissues. They looked awful, and the store was confused as to how a record look like a still photo of the wave rings, like when you throw pebbles into water.

2nd attempt. I get a phone call saying both are horribly scratched up and will send them back.

3rd attempt. Still garbage pressings. So they let the distribution house know of this. They ended up opening the big boxes they got of them. And surprise surprise. Every single copy is no good. As to what happened after that, I have no idea.

Not sure what happened between the 4 Flaming Lips reissues on white, clear, blue, and pink vinyl, and the Mr Bungle reissue. It went from good pressings to, let's cram as much as we can onto one record. I could not believe how awful it sounded. To give you an idea, I tried to record it on a cassette. And with my recording levels at full blast. It was nowhere near hitting the red. It was barely hitting half way in the negative side of the db meter.

After all this, and seeing other reviews of this label. I will never buy another album that is released by this label.

And with this kind of business practices. How long before this label goes bankrupt. And even worse. Unload the remaining records back to the band. Just to have the bands themselves use them for Frisbees or skeet shooting.

Thanks alot Plain Records for making K-Tel records sound like pure gold. Because your pressings are pure garbage before they even make it out of the presses.

Appealing pressings - do not buy from this label. Embarrassing.

While I won't completely jump the bandwagon here on giving a blanket statement like "everything Plain has done sucks", I will say their quality leaves a lot to be desired...

PROs - Most of their reissues at time of release are dirt cheap (15-25), and they are usually of albums that otherwise, we as fans will have no way of getting unless you're willing to dish out the 100+ dollars a lot of these original pressings go for. I don't agree they all sound bad, especially if you're comparing it to one that someone had for 15 years, played the crap out of, and took bad care of, people forget to mention that it is rare that you're going to find a completely mint copy of most of these albums, and if you do, you'll likely be scared to ever play it. Plain does give fans the option of picking up a "beater" copy of their favorite rare LP that their collection was missing, for a more than affordable price.

CONS - Here is where I jump the bandwagon, and will take it a step further. Not only are their reissues (not always though) often squished onto a single LP, when it is clearly a double LP length album, but often the packaging is the bare minimum. Sometimes it feels like even worse than a bootleg with their reissues. Case in point; i'm a HUGH Flaming Lips fan, and in desperation bought their reissue of In a Priest Driven Ambulance, unsure if it was the band's doing , but you didn't even get the album in a pseudo original packaging, it was some really generic cover ,that they used for all the vinyl reissues of the early albums, maybe Plain had nothing to do with that, but you felt cheated as a fan, because it felt nothing like the genuine article. If you're going to master from CD's at least make the album look like your not buying a bootleg. On the plus side, this was a double LP reissue, so they don't always go cheap on the vinyl.

Over all though, I say you get what you pay for. If you really really,...REALLY need that album for your collection, you could do worse. Case in point, see the WB reissues in 2008 of the early Metallica records, out of the packaging many were so defective you couldn't play one song without it getting stuck in a groove, and just looping over and over.I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of my favorite albums if the price was right, but stay away from bloated priced reissues like the MBV Loveless pressing, there is tons of bootlegs out there that sound just as good, if not possibly better, and go for a more realistic price.

Truly shocking label, sounds like the records were cut with a rock. Terrible.
