Versailles

Profile:

French label co-founded by Bruno Coquatrix (1910-1979) and Ray Ventura (1908-1979). Sacha Distel (Ray Ventura's nephew) was the artistic manager.
Distributed in the USA by United Telefilm Records Inc. Versailles also distributed a number of labels: Atlantic from 1956 to 1958, Dot Records from 1956 to 1960 and Belter from Spain from July 1956 were a few of them.
In 1962 Versailles switched distribution to Arteco, a company that also distributed Odeon and Blue Note. Shortly after that, Arteco was acquired by CBS, making Versailles a CBS label. Nowadays the label is owned by Sony Music Entertainment France S.A.S.

The label was relaunched several times in the 70's, 80's and 90's until 2000, mainly as a budget reissue and compilation label.
