So So Def

So So Def Recordings is an R&B and hip-hop label started by Jermaine Dupri in 1992. Initially it was a joint venture with Columbia/SME Records but in 2002, relations turned sour and Dupri switched distribution to Arista. In 2004, distribution was switched the Zomba Label Group, a unit of Sony BMG.

In 2005, Dupri took So So Def to Virgin/EMI Records, where it found new life. However, in 2007, Dupri changed bases again, this time with the Island Def Jam Music Group unit of Universal Music.

In early 2009, Dupri ended his relations with Island and moved back to Sony, operating under the Zomba Label Group.

In June 2016, Dupri collaborated with L.A. Reid, under his new distribution deal with Epic Records, a unit of Sony Music Entertainment.

Note: Unlike other labels that switch distributors, So So Def’s releases remain with their initial issuing label.
