Nice 'N' Ripe

Profile:

Grant Nelson's label, founded in 1993 with financial support from George Power.
Nelson's partner Kate Ross came up with the name while Nelson drew the logo: a simple two-tone globe of the world.
The label's early releases were mostly produced by Nelson, his cousin David Thackeray and David's friend Si Firmin in The Cellar UK.
Like other London labels from the same era such as Azuli Records, the initial releases were made to look like American imports, with New York references on the labels.
Nelson's partnership with Power came to an end in 1996 over royalty payments issues.
After Nelson's departure, Power continued the label with further releases issued using Nelson's artist names reallocated to new producers.
Nelson went on to establish the similarly-named Rise 'n' Shine (see titles on The No FX EP).
Power's reaction to Nelson's sister label, Swing City Records, was Sting City (see titles on Pay Back EP and How Do You Like It Now?).
