It seems that they didn't actually do any actual remixes - just basic re-edits of other people's mixes that anyone could make with some basic audio editing software.

Yes lots of edits but Direct Hit was more known for their track selection. Totally illicit as they rarely got proper permission but some of the tracks they put on their issues to this day are super, SUPER hard to find (and super fantastic, at least for the time they came out).

Among the edits they did some great remixes as well which either had a huge amount of additional production added, or were completely redone from the acapella.

From a production point of view, some of the best ones to check out:

Issue 01: Get Huh! (The Ride Committee)
Issue 08: Bizarre Love Triangle (Frente!)
Issue 13: I Love The Nightlife (Bronski Beat) - no less than 29 samples from Priscilla Queen Of The Desert!
Issue 14: Think Of You (Whigfield)
Issue 15: Gloria (Laura Branigan)
Issue 15: Xanadu (Olivia Newton John)
Sector 03: The Lover That You Are (Pulse)
Sector 07: One And One (Robert Miles)
Sector 08: Lovefool (Cardigians)
Sector 15: Light My Candle (Cast of 'Rent')
Sector 20: Horny (Mousse T)
Sector 24: It's Not Right But It's Okay (Whitney Houston)
