American recording studio located in Midtown Manhattan, New York. The studio was co-founded by Gary Kellgren and Chris Stone (8) in April 1968, and closed in 1987. The first sessions at the studio were for The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland. Other notable albums recorded at the studio included John Lennon - Imagine, Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run, Soft Machine - The Soft Machine, and Patti Smith Group - Easter.
The Record Plant was the first studio designed to provide the musicians with a comfortable, casual environment for recording. Later, two more locations were opened, Record Plant, Los Angeles and Record Plant, Sausalito. Remote recording was done by Record Plant Mobile Studio.
