Founded in 1966 by gallerist and curator René Block, Edition Block is one of the oldest publishers of multiples by contemporary international artists. Besides limited edition objects, prints and books Edition Block published also audio and video works by artists associated with the Galerie René Block. From 1981 to 1988 the primary focus of the Edition Block was the release of multiples in the form of LPs with works by Conrad Schnitzler, David Tudor, Ivan Wyschnegradsky, Claus Böhmler, Philip Corner, Henning Christiansen and Gerhard Rühm.
In March 2008 René Block opened a new exhibition space in Berlin which is also named Edition Block.
In May 2014 the Edition Block moved to a new space in another part of Berlin.
