Janus Records

Profile:

US record label once owned by GRT (General Recorded Tape) Corporation; it distributed the Chess (as a subsidiary label until 1977, when it was sold to Sylvia Robinson's All Platinum Records), Barnaby Records (from 1973-78) and Westbound (from 1970 to 1975, when it switched distribution to 20th Century Records) labels.
For all unofficial / bootleg copies of this label please use Janus Records (3)
Artists who recorded for Janus included Al Stewart, The Whispers, Ray Stevens, Cymande, Pickettywitch, Cissy Houston, and Mungo Jerry. It also issued the Sonet recordings of Bill Haley And His Comets in the US during the Seventies.

The label broke off from GRT just as that company was becoming insolvent; it still exists today only to lease its master recordings to other companies to reissue.
