One Thousad Records must be one of the coolest DJ friendly & orientated imprints from the nineties. With only a total of eighteen tracks released under his own name, the name Marco Carola was heard and known far and wide.
Justifiably so. Far from that any of this stuff is complex or thought provoking, but that's not the point here. Marco created sounds simple in structure, catchy loops and hooks with fantastic arrangements and crispy percussion. Not many layers, but detailed composition, and an undeniable knack for delivering the goods for the dance floors. Be it harder techno, funk, loopy tunes, pure and stripped down minimal drive, 4x4 merciless techno onslaughts or a more subtle approach, he covered it all through just nine 12" releases.
A great overview of the label's otput is the essenial "The 1000 Collection", while the highly elusive and limited to one hundred copies only "Collectors Edition" 9x12" remains one of the most sought after items of the respective author of this text...
Anyways, if you stumble upon any one of One Thousand Records vinyls, do not hesitate, buy it immediately. In my book, there is at least one fantastic track on every on of those releases.
Marco Carola has moved on and recorded quite a lot of music on many different labels, but during those times he came up with Poison, Plastatik, Tang, Submarine or Live Act, he must have felt like the luckiest son of a mother in Europe!
A label very much worth your time and attention, namely if you are a DJ.
