Label founded by the members of The Grateful Dead in 1973 to assume creative control over their recordings and gain control of manufacture and distribution.
After two studio albums they conceded control of certain aspects to United Artists Music And Records Group, Inc. and closed the label operations by 1977.
Beginning in the late 80s, the imprint was restarted with catalog reissues distributed independently, as well as through Arista, and later Rhino in the USA, Ace Records Ltd. amd Line Music GmbH In the UK and Germany respectively.
In later years, the label released archival concert recordings licensed through Grateful Dead Productions.
