In 1967 Gerd Bacher was elected as general director, who started to modernize national Austrian TV and radio with a very diverse program. Bacher hired Erich Sokol to design a CI (Corporate identy) for the broadcaster. At the same time, he structured TV & radio in pop, local and cultural channels, that are still in existence today. In all regional capitols, new broadcasting stations were built after plans of Gustav Peichl, even to have an architectural concept for the new state-fund broadcasting organzation. Bacher supported uncommercial cultural productions to show the variety of arts in national TV and radio. He served as general director from 1967 to 1992 with short interruptions.
