I got into punk rock in Chicago around my sophomore year of high school. I went to HS in the suburbs about 5 miles from city limits on the north side. this was around 1994 or so. within a year, i started going to shows regularly and i saw more than a few at the fireside bowl. the fighters weren't really around anymore at that time, i never did get to see them live. but i saw hitmen 3 or 4 times and 88 a bunch of times as well. and guys like CJ used to come to shows with some of the other dudes on the label and they all had super cool rocco windbreakers. i am now 40 and i still think those windbreakers were cool as hell. i dont know how many people in the room knew who they were but i did and i was in awe. they would roll in together as a group and keep to themselves, with more than a few nerds like me admiring them from afar. i wanted a windbreaker bad and i wanted to be down even worse. never achieved either one but i did start to grab some vinyl even way back them. still have it all plus much more that i have accumulated since, and that will have to do.
