Real Gone is an UK budget label, active under this name from 2010 to 2015.
Issued multi-CDs compilations of Public Domain material (Jazz, Rock, Rhythm and Blues, ....).
Packaged in "FATBOY" JEWEL CASES with Real Gone alone only on CD faces, and series name on front cover, back cover and spine (Real Gone Jazz and Real Gone Music (2) are by far the 2 most frequent series, see list below for the other series).
"Digitally Remastered and Enhanced for Superior Quality" is printed on front cover. Please note that there are not enhanced in the discogs sense.
Releases are often manufactured by www.musicmelon.co.uk and there is usually a suggestion to visit this website (no more available).
Notes:
1) From 2015, the label and the layout changed: it was Real Gone Music Company, the CDs were then packaged in DIGIPAK, with a different layout, different logo and Deluxe mention on front cover, Real Gone Music Company logo on back cover (sometimes also on sticker) and disc face with similar layout but NO label mention.
Real Gone is no more the label in this case. Please add Real Gone Music Company as label for those releases. Real Gone Jazz and Real Gone Music (2) are the 2 only remaining series.
Of course that I can't judge on ALL reissues of this label, as I have not listened to all them. But I can assure you that the ones I own have the same sound quality of the original CDs (they were probably copied from those ones). With the big advantage of low price, and small space to keep them. I had purchased all CDs from my favorite artists (although I still prefer my original LPs). Now, when I bought these Real Gone reissues, I simply replaced my previous CDs (and sold them for a good money!)
Real Gone is yet another grey market public domail reissue label. Most of their releases are multi-disc jazz and blues compilations. Sound quality of these box sets is consistently bad. Tracks are being sourced from who knows where. Many of Real Gone's releases are low quality needle drops made from worn out records. These titles have lots of audible surface noise, pops, skipping and groove distortion. Their digitally sourced compilations are just as bad. These titles are overly compressed and very harsh sounding.
Mastering is substandrd. Clipping is a big issue with many of these releases. Some discs won't even play properly due to weird mastering glitches. For example some tracks listed on the album covers are either incomplete, completely missing or replaced with silence.
I've heard approximately 20 of Real Gone's multi-disc compilations, and every single one of them had some issues mentioned above. IMHO Real Gone must be one of the worst currently active reissue labels out there. I'd suggest you to avoid these releases.
