German label / Sometimes abbreviated as I.C. on releases.
Label Code: LC 6459 / LC 06459 A predominantly electronic music label, Innovative Communication, aka IC, was founded in 1978 by the pioneer Klaus Schulze and Michael Haentjes, with consultation and publishing by Klaus D. Müller (I See Music and P.O.E.M. Musikverlag) and distribution via WEA Musik GmbH. Initial releases were largely by friends of Klaus Schulze of Synth Music (Berlin School) and Krautrock related music, plus an incognito project of Klaus Schulze under the guise of Richard Wahnfried. In 1980, IC parted with WEA and joined up with the independent distributor Deutsche Austrophon. The next releases (16 of the first 17 in the KS series) adopted a new strategy of 45 rpm LPs "for better quality" although this idea was eventually abandoned.
In 1983, Klaus Schulze sold his shares in IC to concentrate on his music. Mark Sakautzky took over as musical director and Michael Weisser as chief producer. Under their direction bands like Software, Peter Seiler, Mind over Matter, Megabyte and Quiet Force joined the label. Over the next few years, IC became one of the major players of the then booming new age music market.
Barcodes: Early releases (up to 1988) do not have barcodes. They were introduced sometime very late in 1988 or early 1989, with dual barcodes for German and USA sales appearing about a year later.
The electronic label was founded in 1978 by the pioneer Klaus Schulze and Michael Haentjes, who was at that time working as a music journalist. The label came to the mind of the wide audience after the release of the debut album of the band Ideal, one of the founders of the Neue Deutsche Welle.
In the year 1983 Klaus Schulze left the label to concentrate on his music. He was replaced by Mark Sakautzky as a musical director. Under his direction bands like Software, Peter Seiler, Mind over Matter, Megabyte and Quiet Force joined the label.
In 1985 Sakautzky joined with Michael Weisser, the creative consultant, who created the unique design of IC. In the year 1990 the million-turover was reached and the IC DigIt Music GmbH was founded. In 1994 Mark Sakautzky sold his shares in the company and Michael Weisser directed the company together with the Pallas Group, the new partner, until 2002. Then DA MUSIC, the distribution company of the label since the beginning, took over Weissers shares and build a new team for the label. The entire stock of CD-labels was destroyed in 2002 under existing contracts.
DA MUSIC, member of the PALLAS GROUP, is now releasing selected masters on a fine DVD series called Universal Fantasies and will revive some of the historic releases in a new, improved version.
