- When I first got into breakcore and gabber, Low Res was one of the first stops for me and, over the years, this has proven to be one of those labels that quietly and consistently puts out amazing experimental music. Sort of like the American equivalent to Praxis. There's a ton of variety in this back catalogue and some truly pivotal moments in the development of breakcore. Abelcain's music found a home here very early on and it's some of the best stuff he's done. The Snares record is a classic, as is the Electron Abuse compilation. More recently, the label has been branching out into different strains and has really gone beyond the breakcore tag while it continues to blaze a path through the landscape of modern music. The latest phase in this evolution sees a "synthier" approach while still keeping the edge that has always made the label great. In these days of homogenization and more and more labels going toward digital distribution, I have nothing but respect for a label that stays true to vinyl and, more importantly, to music that involves taking a bit of a risk to put out.
I also have to mention here that the Low Res website has some amazing titles available that you might have thought were long gone, and without inflated prices. Definitely worth checking out.
