The label was started in 1973. In its early days, the names "Delta" and "Delta Music" were used interchangeably for this label. Usually the sleeves had the "Delta" name and logo, and the name "Delta Music" was on the labels. Later, only the "Delta" name and logo was used.

At a certain point, the label was introduced in the UK and in the USA.
