Zomba purchased Rough Trade in 1996, but initially kept the Rough Trade branding. On July 8, 1999, the companies were rebranded. Rough Trade in Germany and Switzerland became Zomba Records GmbH. Legally operating under this name from 27 July 1999 to 30 December 2003.
Zomba Records GmbH, along with all of Zomba's international offices, was integrated into the local BMG offices in mid-2003 after Bertelsmann purchased the entirety of the Zomba Corporation.
Zomba Records GmbH, along with Rough Trade's distribution arm (now called Zomba Distribution), owned a handful of German labels and held licensing and distribution deals with many other regional labels.
