Shock City is a Japanese independent record label, dedicated to contemporary avantgarde, experimental, and extreme music, established in 1996 by Yamatsuka Eye, founder of Hanatarash and Boredoms/V∞redoms, and managed by Boredoms camp since then. The label's official website is online as of Feb 2019, and features many releases by EYE, Boredoms and other related projects and bands, as well as miscellaneous merchandise, including both the usual apparel and tote bags and some novelty items like solar key chain, stickers and sun visors.
Shock City produced a dozen of CD (both digipak and jewel case w/ OBI-strips) / LP / 12" / 2xCD / DVD-V releases by OOIOO (including a split 12" with Noise Ramones) and Hanatarash, as well as two Various Artists compilations. Shock City was originally distributed by Trattoria, but since Cornelius' label became defunct in the early two thousands, Polystar took over domestic and international distribution and manufacturing for Shock City. The latest album in the catalog is OOIOO's seventh studio album, Gamel CD, released in Nov 2013 by Shock City in Japan and in July 2014 as Gamel 2xLP with different artwork by Thrill Jockey in the United States.
