Blood Music (2)

Blood Music (2) image

Profile:

Defunct Finnish label that specialised in extreme metal music. The first releases were usually limited, high quality box sets with additional features such as t-shirts or posters, new layout or other extras/bonuses. In mid-2014, the musical spectrum was extended to new 80's electro/retro-wave by releasing Perturbator's "Dangerous Days". The label later moved from Tampere to Porvoo, with additional warehouses in the US (Michigan) and Ireland, and full retail distribution across North America, Europe and Australia.

In December 2021, the label announced its closure, due to the owner wanting a break from operations.

Ordered the Moonsorrow Heritage White set (14LP!), the Ensiferum self-titled record and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's Polygondwanaland from them. The latter two records were shipped separately and swiftly in a few days, good packaging and good quality records(though Ensiferum's album could've had a gatefold instead of two sleeved records in a single jacket.)

The Moonsorrow set is, as said before, the best thing I've ever had in my hands. It did get delayed for a bit, but once it got shipped it came in pretty fast. It also came with half of Finland's supply of packaging material as well, which is good since it travelled two thousand kilometres by ships and trucks and arrived unscathed. Good shipping and packaging. Uses biodegradable cornstarch based packing peanuts, if that matters to you(it does to me).

I did notice a few pops and scratches on the Moonsorrow set but I haven't figured out if that's my set or the records(I mean, it was rediscovered in a warehouse so it'd have been sitting there for a bit), but it's fairly minor so it doesn't bother me a lot.
Still no idea where I'm going to put the Tulymyrsky poster since it's so huge.

The pricing seems a little steep but you do get good quality records, handling and shipping so I think it's worth it.
Customer support pretty good, quick to respond and helpful.

tl;dr: Good quality records, decent shipping and customer support, bit expensive though but ultimately very much worth it.

Two years ago, Blood Music reissued the first 3 Carbon Based Lifeform albums marketed as limited editions of 2000 copies worldwide. These albums sold out and now they're reprinting them. They are no longer referenced as limited edition. Given the underhanded marketing tactics (lies) of this company, I won't be ordering from them again.

I Ordered 7 vinyls from them from September to November 2017.
Amazing releases, good customer support (albeit a little slow sometimes), great selection of styles for pretty much every release. Products are very well protected and they have a lot of good artists.
A little on the expensive side though

Blood Music is by far one of the best labels out there. I have been buying over 60 records from him since 2012 and never had any problems. No other label is more transparent in running their business than Blood Music. If you can´t follow the rules such as "all sales are final" then don´t buy. Getting offended by not keeping your side of the contract is just selfish and stupid. I can´t believe how bitter some of these keyboard warriors are. Also just received my last batch of records from him and I´ll have to say that the new mailer is superb! Premium product in premium mailer delivered fast as lightning straight to my front door. PERFECT!

I too was banned from Blood Music. I purchased several LPs since the beginning of the label. I had to cancel an order, before it waseven shipping and I was banned. I was told to either keep the order or cancel and never order again. Safe to say I will never order again.

Would love to add another review about childish label owner. Rude is an understatement. When trying to speak to him on an adult level he curses and tells me to f#ck off. Hes an absolute cry baby and he hides behind his keyboard and threatens his customers, buyers beware. He needs a slap. Get this stuff on the 2nd hand market and don't buy direct from blood music. The artists on the label should leave this 12 year old label owner high and dry if you ask me. As you can see below this is the way he treats everybody.

I have read with interest the comments below and feel I should say something about my own experience with the guy who runs this label.
Romanticore is right, the guy who runs this label is an absolute child.i have experienced from him the worst customer service of 25 years of buying vinyl.what kind of record label has no way for customers to make contact? (that's right,no phone number,no emails).it is for this reason that I have been banned from ordering from the website, because in pure desperation to make contact I opened a PayPal dispute (which I promptly closed within an hour of opening having, surprise surprise, got an answer once money was on the line and an explanation as to why one of the items on my order was not as advertised).
When the guy who runs the label explained the situation and told me that the PayPal dispute (again, only opened because I had no way of making contact) would impact the artist's income I was doubly compelled to end the dispute.
Having done this I made my piece with the guy and complimented him on his good work with Perturbator.i thought at this point that the matter was resolved, however, when I went to order pertubator's new album I found I was blocked from buying.i emailed the guy saying that surely we had worked things out and there was no reason for me to be banned from ordering.that was a month ago and still no reply.that seems like pretty childish behaviour to me.

Fuck them sometimes for their extremely limited releases (like the Thy Catafalque vinyl issues).

The quality of the vinyl brought to the fans by Blood Music is superb. Sorry to see some discoggers are asking crazy money for reselling items which belong to fans at a decent price. And yes the decent price is higher than your average vinyl, but Blood Music does not release average vinyl, high quality is the standard. You won't be disappointed adding Blood Music to your collection.

The quality of work, dedication to their cause and the business model breadth and values put this label amongst the greatest small businesses in the music industry. With heir upcoming ultra-premium limited release of the entire Strapping Young Lad box set, the Blood Music team will set a milestone for the vinyl re-issue community and build a monument for their relentless work ethic. Amazing work guys!!!
