Perlon is a minimal techno/microhouse record label, founded in 1997 by Markus Nikolai, Thomas Franzmann (Zip) and Chris Rehberger at Frankfurt and currently based in Berlin. It is often recognized as one of the genre-defining labels in the world of minimalistic and experimental techno. All releases on Perlon are physical only (vinyl and CD), not available for downloading.
Label Code: LC 11584 .
Perlon catalog includes such artists as Ricardo Villalobos, Baby Ford, Stefan Goldmann, Akufen, Pantytec, Dandy Jack, A Guy Called Gerald, Wareika and many others. The label famously never accepts demos. The name of the label came from Nikolai. Originally it was a working title for one of the albums of Pile, his project with Zip and graphic designer Chris Rehberger, who later created famous Perlon logo and designed covers for a number of their releases.
PERL 11 (1999) is a Perlon t-shirt, the only non-musical release.
When listening to the 2022 represses I realize how much Perlon-music has been ahead of its time. This label has shaped the landscape of electronic music like no other and it has defined what we now call "Minimal". And after all changes in the music industry they're still true to theirselves with vinyl only policy and the music they release itself in a way that even the most famous brands of consumer products out there could learn a lot from Perlon.
so, here it is, my rant about the 2021 represses: where are they? why isn't any of them released, or is my record dealer some kind of ...? website doesn't give much info, but: as i ordered (9th of nov 2021) some of them were already announced for some time, now time of release is given with 22.04.2022 :))))) perlonies! WHAT'S GOING ON?
lovely label, of course. if only they'd start doing digi releases... it's a shame to gatekeep such good music don't wanna go into technicalities, but my request does have a lot to do with sound quality, which I'm sure the guys are super passionate about. vinyl is amazing and needs to coexist next to digi versions which absolutely preserve the master tape quality. Pretty sure a lot of people would love to support this music on a digi (eg. bandcamp) release, listen it on Spotify... YouTube not so much, SoundCloud is dead and a lot of music lovers would choose Spotify and the likes to listen their music on in 2022. Much love
What is it about these early releases that make them still sound so fresh? Is it just the simplicity? A first time listener may find them sort of annoying or repetitive, but I love them and you can never find a kick drum that makes you stomp your feet like some of these old bangers. They definitely beg to be mixed and layered on top of each other and I guess that is why they still fetch so much cash? This label will always be one of my fav's. Long live Perlon!
