This distribution arm of Sony Music Entertainment (in the US) had its beginnings as CBS Associated through CBS Records, and was originally created to promote and distribute smaller labels not owned by CBS, but which had signed promotion and manufacturing agreements with CBS.
As Sony Music Entertainment was to acquire CBS Records in November 1987, Sony was granted temporary rights to use the "CBS" name through January 1991. Beginning in 1989, artists on CBS Associated were being migrated to the renamed Epic Associated, and it continued to be active for marketing and distribution through 2001, until it was folded into the Epic parent.
For unofficial releases, please use Epic Associated (2).
