Early on in the past decade, Glenn Wilson really had something going on for himself, with a series of incredible, true to the form hard techno 12"-ers, accompanied by an equally severe string of their respective remixes by some of the scene’s largest names.
Great, no nonsense techno bangers, without embellishment or supplementary elements, with unprecedented drive and loudness, surpassing everything he and the artists associated with his labels recorded up to then.
What also makes Heroes a compulsory stop for all hard techno lovers is the relevance these releases still have today. They still stand for that raw, no strings attached, no punches and cheap tricks post millennium hard techno - before it degenerated into a pile of aimless, mindlessly distorted percussion rubbish with occasional infantile samples we refer to as schranz – and that’s why DJs who still opt for this sound can be caught with Heroes stuff in their bags.
The covers are all great, and perfectly portray the sound: vinyls are coated in black sleeves with a different golden robot stamped on the front side as a logo.
Glenn really did set the bar high with this label, not because of a revolutionary approach to techno, or because of creating a sound which would puzzle one’s mind, but because of taking the concept of monotonous, repetitive and bulldozer hard into the next century with determination, lots of it.
Be prepared though, if you’re expecting a ticket to your inner self’s fourth dimension, then cross this off your list. The subwoofer shattering, earphone granulating, head crushing and dance floor pulverizing sound waves emitted by these vinyls are strictly for the ones with a mechanical heart and all guts no glory attitude. Once the needle drops, my only recommendation is to turn the volume up and watch your friendly neighbors turn into arch enemies.
Not necessarily the best hard techno label ever, not even my favorite one, but definitely an unavoidable stop one must make. As far as Glenn Wilson goes, I think he recorded some of his best work here. This really muscular, robust techno sound suits him well, and in my opinion, it is through this label that he fully expanded his sound, and gave it an evolved, more mature, albeit not overly accessible sound. In fact, without undermining or disqualifying anyone anywhere, today I myself more tied and can relate more to his work on this label than the stuff he did for various other imprints.
Those who love it will hardly ever part with their Heroes series!

Hard & Pounding 4x4 Techno. Not as distorted as what some people like to call "Schranz". Monotone hypnotising samples. Hard kick on the beat and great heavy basslines. The X-series stay true to the hard Heroes-sound but with a touch of the remixing artist. Must-have for hard-Techno lovers !
