Guerilla

Profile:

British record label founded in 1990 by William Orbit and Disc O'Dell. It primarily released progressive house music and helped to spearhead the genre.

I.R.S. Records had a long history with Orbit as an artist so when he launched Guerilla, I.R.S. struck a distribution deal for the US. I.R.S. executive Rob Di Stefano took control of what Guerilla titles were released in the US and between 1991 and 1994 they were issued on Di Stefano's TRIBAL America label. By 1994, Tribal was soaring and when the Guerilla deal was up for renewal, Di Stefano rejected it, partly due to high licensing fees. Without that funding, Guerilla experienced financial problems and closed down. The company was dissolved in 2003.

Written as Guerilla Records on many releases.

For the company (e.g., as copyright owner), use Guerilla Records Ltd.

A new incarnation, Guerilla Recordings (2), appeared c. 2008.

Lot's of seminal progressive house and trance released on this label. Not every release is a winner, but the ones that are (which are quite a few) are some of the best that early progressive house has to offer.

As soon as you saw the Neville Brody designed, generic camouflage sleeves for this label, you could tell this was going to be a quality label, and it's suprising just how many of the releases have stood the test of time.
