Profile:	Founded as a dance label in a Greenwich Village living room, Instinct Records gained prominence in the early 1990s by releasing compilations of Acid Jazz-label material in the US. The simultaneous success of the label's first signing, electronic musician Moby, was built on by licensing and releasing seminal recordings from Rising High Records, Kickin Records, and Antler-Subway, as well as releasing music by local techno-oriented ambient musicians signed to the label. Instinct was purchased by Knitting Factory Records in 2003. For company credits, please use Instinct Records, Inc. if credited with "Inc".

A really musically pioneering cross pollinating east coast label up there with Transmat, Silent and many of the great 90s electronica labels. Instinct was really pushing the borders early on introducing Moby, Human Mesh Dance, Sub Dub and acid jazz gems like Kosma. Very diverse in their choice of artist with an affinity towards the upper echelons of quality and creativity. Instinct also brought us the lovely Fax compilations introducing many of our ears to German musicians like Pete Namlook, Jammin Unit, Tetsu Inoue, Gas(UK musician), etc. Grateful and deeply indebted to their vision.
