Candid is originally an American jazz label from New York. It was founded in late 1960 as a subsidiary of Cadence Records and its first releases were issued in January 1961. The label was directed by Bob Altshuler, with Nat Hentoff as producer. In late 1961, having issued about 30 LPs, the label came to its end. Nearly 3 decades later, Black Lion London-based owner Alan Bates revived the name, renamed his own label to Candid Records, and started reissuing all the classic titles as of 1989. Candid now is an independent, award-winning UK jazz label.
