I haven’t had any issues with titles pressed by Pallas. I actually seek them out as they tend to be about the best sounding pressings that aren’t extremely expensive and they all seem to sound very good. They lack the pops and clicks that some pressing facilities are notoriously famous for. One of the best sounding albums I have that Pallas USA pressed is the 2 x Vinyl, LP, Album, Reissue, Remastered, Gatefold, 180 Gram RSD pressing of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers – Damn The Torpedoes. It’s dead quiet and it’s an incredible pressing. I also have the limited Red vinyl edition, but I don’t have it listed along with some other rare pressings because too many people kept emailing me trying to get me to sell these albums. The Red RSD version is pressed at Schallplattenfabrik Pallas GmbH, in Germany.
I just realized that they are now pressing vinyl releases in the U.S., so that could be part of the issue of why “vinylfilmaholic” is getting pressings that are not up to their standard of quality pressings. I have a very rare and played only twice tie-dyed vinyl pressing of RSD release of “Porno For Pyros” that is way off center and it irritated the hell out of me. A friend of mine used a large and sharp drill bit and made the hole larger. It’s now worth less than a mint copy, even though it is mint. He had to do this to a sealed copy of Queen - A Day At The Races “ that was old stock and a Mobile Fidelity Labs pressings. It cost me like $250.00 a few years ago.
I’ve had really good luck with Pallas in general, but the pressing issues that I have had the most problems with are the ones done by the Czech pressing plant, GZ Media. The “Vinyl Me Please” Record Club has been really good for the most part using GZ Media, but I will not buy anything that they have pressed for sale at multiple retailers or online stores. They are terrible. There’s a few companies that I try my hardest to avoid. My biggest is Matador! A 15.00 copy of Interpol-El Pintor on Red Vinyl I purchased still had rings of vinyl in the pressing. After several cleanings and inspections, and using a vacuum cleaning machine, I thought it was finally clean, but a small chip of red vinyl in the groove ripped out my $1,500 stylus. That’s why everything gets a good cleaning before it goes into my collection.
I’ve purchased several albums from many different pressing plants and all of them have at one time or another failed to meet my expectations from my previous experience with the label, but GZ Media has been the most consistent in disappointing me with their products that are made for the masses and not for VMP Record Club. This is just my opinion and some people will completely disagree with this review, but if you look up GZ Media’s page here on Discogs, you’ll see that there are many people who have been unhappy with their pressings.
