- If i worked at ECM, I would be repressing some of these old albums to capture the Vinyl revival. WTF do I know, I just listen to it. SMH.
- Always amuses me when comments for individual ECM albums have the usual "wonderful pressing, amazing sound" remarks. I mean, seriously, is there such a thing as a badly pressed ECM record? Eicher built the reputation on sound. Even the CDs are always good. This is a label that has produced a wide range of wonderful music and still continues to do. In terms of sound and quality, this is never in doubt.
- Edited 7 years agoKnown ECM CD pressing variations...
1. Original 1st press is a "silver to centre" disc, with red ECM text.
2. 1994 press 18mm clear centre some with red ECM text (often with no manufacturer)
3. / 4. 1994-98? press 18mm clear centre some with red ECM text, some with blue ECM text, will have manufacturer(s) on disc
5. 1998?+ pressings 25mm clear centre with blue ECM text
Notes:
Original 1st press ECM CD issues started in late 1983, and the style of disc pressing "silver to centre" flat discs (with no stacking ring) continued to 1993. There may well be pressing variations within that period that we don't know about.
blue ECM logo discs were first introduced to celebrate ECM's 25th anniversary with a selection of top selling titles at a special price, after which all new pressings had the blue logo.
All ECM CDs have barcodes
A lot of disc type rules 1-5 apply to other German Polygram/Phonogram/Universal labels
