Upfront New York Disco, Electro and No Wave label launched by Michael Zilkha and Michel Esteban in 1978. Crew members included James White, Material/Bill Laswell, Fonda Rae, Suicide, Was (Not Was), August Darnell/Kid Creole amongst others.

ZE had a long-running partnership with Island Records, leading to their records being marketed and distributed via Island, Ariola (Island's European home at the time) and other record companies worldwide.

ZE was shut down in 1985, and revived by Esteban in 2002. Now based in Brazil, the label is concentrating primarily on deluxe remastered reissues of long-lost ZE classics, with some new productions planned for the future.

    Be aware!!! I ordered cd's via their official site zerecords.com; they took my money and I never received any of the cd's. No answer whatsoever when you try to contact them. In the end, PayPal gave me a full refund as they couldn't reach them either!

      ZE is the favourite label of Output label boss and artist Trevor Jackson who owns the complete back catalogue.
